Welcome to SmackDown Live. We get a recap video package of AJ Styles retaining the US Title over Kevin Owens at SummerSlam. Styles walked down to the ring to open the show. Styles brought up beating Owens at SummerSlam and issued a US Title Open Challenge. This led to Owens walking out and saying that Styles didn’t beat him at SummerSlam, but rather Shane McMahon screwed him out of the title. He said that Styles couldn’t take credit for beating him. He repeated that McMahon screwed him. This led to McMahon walking out. McMahon said that he did exactly what he had to do at SummerSlam and that was calling the match right down the middle. He said that Styles won the match fair and square. Owens pointed out that McMahon couldn’t make the three count after being attacked by Styles and how McMahon hit him at Summerslam. Owens showed footage of him pinning Styles, but the decision was overruled due to Styles’ foot being on the bottom rope. Owens wants to know how Styles can be champion even though he beat him. McMahon said that his decision stands. Owens called Styles a joke of a champion. Styles called Owens a whiny bitch and gave him a title match for tonight. McMahon booked the match. Owens wanted to pick the referee for the match and Styles agreed to it. McMahon made it clear that this is Owens’ last shot at the title. This ended the segment.
We see Daniel Bryan on the phone talking about surprises. This led to The Singh Brothers walking in and introduced Jinder Mahal. Bryan said that Mahal couldn’t win without the Singh Brothers. Mahal said he is a hero. Bryan booked Shinsuke Nakamura against The Singh Brothers tonight.
We see Owens talking with Sami Zayn backstage. Owens wanted Zayn to be the special guest referee for his match tonight because Zayn is the only guy he can trust. Owens asked him to do it for him as he hasn’t done anything on SmackDown Live.
Singles Match: Bobby Roode vs. Aiden English
They lock up, and Roode clotheslines him to the floor.
We’re back from a quick commercial break. English knocked Roode down but missed a front senton off the top rope. Roode connected with a spine buster then the Glorious DDT for the win.
Post-match, Renee Young interviewed Roode. He said that Bryan and McMahon cashed in by signing the hottest free agent in sports entertainment today. He said that everything he does is big box office. He ended by saying that SmackDown went from being great to glorious.
We see Bryan speaking with Chad Gable. He introduced Shelton Benjamin. Bryan told them that they should be a tag team and that they would be in action next week.
Zayn threw a referee shirt in the face of Owens backstage and said that he would not help him tonight.
Tag Team Match: Hype Bros vs. The Usos
Rawley and Jey started things out. Rawley hit a few splash in the corner. Jimmy distracted Rawley, and Jey caught him with a drop kick. Jimmy with a big splash in the corner. The Usos worked him over in the corner. Moments later, Rawley fought back and got the hot tag to Ryder. Ryder hit a series of moves to Jey. However, Jey reversed a clothesline and hit a super kick for the win.
Winners: The Usos.
Post-match, The Usos cut a promo about how they have the tag team division on lock and welcomed the fans to their prison. They put the division on notice about them being behind them.
2-On-1 Handicap Match: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. The Singh Brothers
Nakamura tossed them around in the ring and then out of it. Mahal tried to get them back into the match while Nakamura taunted Mahal in the ring. Mahal distracted Mahal, and the brothers attacked Nakamura from behind. Nakamura fought back and locked one of the brothers in a triangle choke for the win.
Post-match, Mahal attacked Nakamura from behind. Nakamura fought back and hit a running knee strike to stand tall in the ring and end the segment.
We see Owens trying to talk Superstars into being the special guest referee for his match. This led to Baron Corbin walking up and telling him that he will do it if he gets the first title match against Owens, which Owens agreed to do so.
Naomi cut a promo in the ring about beating Naomi at SummerSlam for the SmackDown Women’s Title. She said that it’s her time and vowed to restore the title. Carmella came out and said that Natalya is on borrowed time. She promised to cash in her contract when the time is right and win the title.
Tag Team Match: Natalya & Carmella vs. Naomi & Becky Lynch
Naomi and Natalya started off the match after Carmella tagged in Natalya right away and we cut to break.
We’re back with Natalya and Carmella double teaming Lynch. Moments later, Lynch made her comeback after rolling up Natalya for 2. Naomi got the hot tag and kicked Natalya in the face for 2. Naomi then locked in a submission, but Natalya got out of it. Natalya with a big kick and tagged in Carmella hard after Carmella teased cashing in the MITB contract. Lynch hit her finisher on Carmella and Naomi hit a dive off the top rope for the win.
Winners: Naomi & Becky Lynch
Dolph Ziggler cut a promo and wanted to reintroduce himself to the fans. He was annoyed that he had to do it in a backstage promo. He said that he knows what it takes to be a star in WWE. He thinks he needs to sing and dance. He teased returning to action next week.
We see Lana on the phone backstage when Tamina walked up. Lana told her that Tamina’s journey to the title begins next week.
We see Corbin talking with Styles backstage. Styles said that when he wins tonight, then there will be an open challenge and Corbin will get his title shot then.

They started brawling then Styles sent Owens flying over the top rope to the floor.
