- United States Championship Match (Open Challenge): Sheamus (c) defeated Ricochet by pinfall.
- Raw Women’s Championship Triple Threat Match: Rhea Ripley (c) defeated Asuka and Charlotte Flair by pinfall (on Asuka).
- SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: Dominik Mysterio and Rey Mysterio defeated Dirty Dawgs (c) by pinfall.
- Lumberjack Match: Damian Priest defeated The Miz by pinfall.
- SmackDown Women’s Championship Match: Bianca Belair (c) defeated Bayley by pinfall.
- WWE Championship Triple Threat Match: Bobby Lashley (c) defeated Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre by pinfall (on Strowman).
- Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) defeated Cesaro by submission.
Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:
Kickoff
- Not a whole lot going on with the first 40 minutes of this. In fact, the only thing worth talking about is the little back-and-forth tension Kayla Braxton had with Sonya Deville. It was funny to hear Deville say everyone makes mistakes and she can count several that Braxton’s made, only for Braxton to immediately reply that bringing Deville onto the panel was one of the mistakes. Nice.
- Sheamus is issuing an open challenge for the United States Championship. The Superstar who answers the call is…….Ricochet.
- Despite having no build and no momentum, this was a good showing for Ricochet. He ultimately came up short, but he looked like he had a few chances to win the title. He even finished looking like the stronger of the two, despite losing the match. Rock solid.
Raw Women’s Championship Triple Threat Match
- My two main thoughts going into this are that I’m expecting it to be good and I’m very, very nervous Flair is going to win the title. If I were booking things, Ripley pins Asuka, then beats Flair at Money in the Bank.
- Flair’s ring gear is good. I assume she had this in the works for WrestleMania.
- Good showings so far. Don’t kill my buzz with the ending!
- Double Natural Selection into a double pin was a good moment.
- Asuka ran into Flair’s boot full-force.
- Very, very happy Ripley retained! This match was a big two-thumbs up.
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match
- I’m not digging the idea that Dominik Mysterio was attacked earlier and is taken out of the match. Hopefully, this isn’t a means for WWE to stretch this out, have Rey lose and then just do the REAL match weeks/months from now. I still argue this should have taken place at WrestleMania and in front of a crowd, but that doesn’t mean I want them to drag it out 2 more months until Extreme Rules.
- Fun baseball slide splash from Mysterio to Ziggler. I liked that.
- Great job with Rey beating the 10-count. That was a 9.5 and he just barely made it. They had me going that it was going to be an actual count-out finish, even if it was just a botch.
- Here comes Dominik. How depressing would it be if he gets tagged in and then loses?
- In any case, it’s a smart move to have him get caught with a spinebuster very quickly once he’s in the match. That makes us think that’s the direction it’s heading.
- Not only is it good they won the titles, it’s good Dominik’s the one who got the pin. That’s cool, and history’s now been made with our first-ever father and son tag team champions.
John Morrison went to the lumberjack locker room and it was filled with zombies. Somehow, I doubt Batista is going to show up to stop them. The Miz wasn’t exactly believing him about that.
Jimmy Uso told Jey Uso they should have their own locker room and be tag team champions, rather than Jey carrying Roman Reigns’ bags and such. Jimmy wished Roman good luck, “cause [he’s] gonna need it.”
The Miz vs. Damian Priest
- The commentators have left due to the zombies ringside!
- Oh. They’re back and commentating “from a safe location.” Corey Graves joking about this not being ECW got a laugh out of me.
- Priest and Miz working together against the zombies was goofy (as this whole match was) but it’s also something that is just sort of harmless fun.
- I’m sure plenty of people will crap on this and I can completely see why. But I won’t be as harsh on it. To me, trying something out like that is excusable, whereas just not doing your job and repeating matches and stretching them out because you don’t want to think of anything else is something that I can argue against with much more zeal.
SmackDown Women’s Championship Match
- To be honest, I feel like this match is getting a weird spot on the card. It seems like it’s more of a bathroom break timing than the lumberjack match, oddly. Of course, I don’t feel that way about it, since I think this is guaranteed to be better, but it’s just a strange vibe I’ve picked up on.
- My guess is I’ll have virtually nothing to specifically talk about here, but I’ll enjoy it as a generic match.
- So far, that’s true. No talking points, but it hasn’t been bad by any means.
- By the end of this, I’ve already forgotten nearly everything that’s happened. This was fine, but it was completely forgettable. Frankly, I expected it to be better.
WWE Championship Triple Threat Match
- A few minutes in, I think this is okay, but it’s falling victim to the same scenario of nothing standing out worth talking about.
- McIntyre throwing Lashley into the LED boards on the stage might be one of the rare scenarios where they hit the pyro at just the right level and exact moment necessary where it’s actually believable. Great job on the people who executed that! Normally, it looks incredibly fake and this was convincing!
- After that, it’s just been rudimentary affair.
- Lashley gets the pin on Strowman. Good enough, but if you missed it, you didn’t miss anything.
Universal Championship Match
- Something’s happened to Pat McAfee’s microphone, or he’s developed a terrible commentary style mid-match where he turns his feed on and off while talking!
- And McAfee’s back to normal.
- Imagine how much the fans would be behind Cesaro if they were in attendance right now. That would instantly upgrade this match several points.
- I like that Cesaro’s getting a chance to do a variety of offense, from power moves to speed to technical wrestling.
- Cesaro’s beaten and bruised and bleeding, but he’s putting up a great fight. This match has the right feel to it regarding that.
- That pinfall while setting up the Sharpshooter threw me off so much! My brain wasn’t sure how to process it in that split second.
- I’ll be honest and admit I don’t know how this is going to end. I’m assuming a “pass out instead of tap out” thing, but it could actually be a spear and a pinfall.
- Cesaro passes out, as expected, and Reigns retains.
- Jey Uso is now out and attacking Cesaro.
- Seth Rollins is out, too, wailing on Cesaro as well.
- A production shot popped up randomly. I hope someone got a screenshot of that.
- Well that’s it. Kind of a meh ending, since nobody came out to save Cesaro or anything, but whatever. The match was good.
