The Roman Reigns Push Version 2.0….This Time it May Actually Work!

When it comes to Roman Reigns we are all familiar with his background and family heritage. We all know the shortcomings that he may possess. However, it looks as if it is now is his time to shine and the 2nd time around looks like it may actually be successful.

It was clear from the beginning that the dominance of the Shield would indeed takeover the WWE in the future. These were 3 exceptional athletes that were just looking for a chance to realize their full potential. I personally always thought Rollins would be the cream of the crop, with Ambrose coming in 2nd and Reigns finishing 3rd. No matter what way you slice it, Reigns was the most inexperienced and unpolished member of the SHIELD. His shortcomings are a big reason why they packaged him with Rollins and Ambrose in the hopes that he would continue to grow. This was the perfect opportunity to learn from two well-traveled veterans who could show him the ropes in, and out of the ring. All great superstars are given this guidance at some point in their career, but all do not take advantage of it the way Reigns seems to do.

Roman is a physical specimen that will always turn heads. He has untapped athletic potential inside the ring and has a chance to electrify an arena if he puts it all together. We all know he isn’t the greatest promo guy, but hell, not everyone can be the Rock. Furthermore, Brock Lesnar is another powerhouse that isn’t exceptional on the mic, but using an avid Promo Guy like Paul Heyman has left him to put all his focus on what goes on inside the ring instead of through the speakers. I wonder if that kind of thought has entered the twisted mind of Creative. Maybe turn Seth babyface and make Roman the next student of the Authority? Just a quick thought…

Make no mistake about it, WWE wanted Roman Reigns to be the top babyface on Raw at this point, but poor booking and terrible direction leading up to WrestleMania derailed those plans. I quite honestly have no idea how he cooled off so fast, but Seth remains the Champ and refuses to let the belt go.

Now the WWE finds themselves in a bind with John Cena going out for a few months and Seth needing a decent opponent to build a rivalry with. Facing off against Rollins is probably the best spot for Reigns, who still has a big section of the crowd to win over. Rollins is loved and respected by many, but people are still longing to see him lose in a big way. Reigns brings with him a whole Shield history that only adds to, and accentuates, the upcoming plans for the title.

WWE took a big step this week to bring Reigns back into the main event spotlight. First, he beat Kofi Kingston and then, to close the show, Reigns won a terrific Fatal Four Way match to become the No. 1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Title, presumably at WWE Survivor Series 2015 next month.

We all remember Rollins cost Reigns the title (in theory) by cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase during the match and then pinning Reigns to end the match. Rollins stole Reigns’ moment, and Reigns never really had a chance to redeem that loss. This storyline remains open and all it needs is a good promo to refuel it. Just seven short months ago, Reigns wasn’t ready to be the lead babyface for the company, but now it looks like his turn again. However the landscape is different at the moment, and this time it may actually work. How long will it take for him to win the belt, if at all? Will this set up an eventual Shield triple- threat match? Will he ever win over the crowd? Thoughts?
