Telling the Story of Sting vs The Undertaker

I’m not feeling well. Got some bull**** cold that I picked up from God knows where. My head is pounding and I got that thing going on where I’m hot and cold at the same time. I was planning on writing about any number of topics but my current condition has led me to think, “nah, I’m just write a fantasy booking post instead.” So here. Enjoy.

Taker vs Sting. Getting there is easier then you’d think. Sure, there’s no streak anymore. Sure, Sting has never appeared in a WWE ring at any point in his career. None of that really matters when setting up a grand showdown between these two icons.

Fast forward from present day to February 15, 2015. It’s the Raw before Elimination Chamber and Michael Cole is all like, “next week, the return of the phenom.” And JBL is like, “We haven’t seen the Undertaker since Brock Lesnar broke the streak at WrestleMania 30. I can’t wait, Maggle!”

One week later and the lights go black. [BONG]. Here comes the Undertaker doing his 5 minute entrance thing. He takes a mic and puts over the fact that yeah, the streak is finished. With the streak having come to an end, so too has the career of the Undertaker. Basically, he announces his retirement.

But then…. The lights go out again… Maybe some thunder and lightning effects. Cue orchestra music…. It’s Sting! He walks to ring and stands face to face with Undertaker. Mic in hand, he mentions how this is his first time in a WWE ring and the first time he’s ever stood face to face with the Undertaker. He mentions that even though he may never have met the Undertaker before, he’s been watching him for years from a distance. He knows every one of the Undertaker’s triumphs and failures.

Sting tells the Undertaker he’s right to want to walk away. He has nothing left to prove. He has accomplished everything there is to accomplish in this business and will go down as one of the greatest ever. BUT, if he chooses to step away now, there’s one thing the Undertaker won’t be able to say….

At Mania 30 Brock Lesnar didn’t just beat the Undertaker, he didn’t just end the streak, he left a legend lying in ruin. After the match the Undertaker was barely able to leave the ring under his own power. After making it through the curtain, he was so weak that he collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital. That’s no way for a legend to go out.

So Sting makes an offer: Icon vs Phenom at Mania 31. It’s not about the streak. It’s not about winning or losing. It’s about two legends squaring off for the first and last time. It’s about being able to walk off into the sunset with your head held high.

Undertaker looks at the Mania 31 sign…. wait for it…. wait for it…. Looks back to Sting. Tip of the hat and it’s on baybay!

Thanks for reading. I’ll probably get flack for writing a fantasy booking post but, eh, I’m aloud to have one.

Cheers
