The tournament season in puroresu is about to kick off tomorrow (and last the next 6 months or so) and today New Japan announced the one I look most forward to every year-the prestigious BEST OF THE SUPER JUNIOR. Back for what will be its 21st year, this always-exciting tournament spotlights the top Jr. Heavyweights from New Japan as well as from the rest of Japan and beyond.
This year’s schedule is as follows:5/30-Korakuen (Opening)
5/31-Kira Messe Numazu
6/1-Akashi Industrial Municipal Interchange Center
6/3-Korakuen
6/4-Haruhibu Convention Hall
6/5-Koshoku Citizen Mansion Multiple Hall
6/6-Kyoto KBS Hall
6/8-Yoyogi National Gym 2 (Finals)
Participating wrestlers will be announced later. Prince Devitt is the defending tournament champion with this year’s storyline being that his victory following a heel turn and forming the BULLET CLUB faction resulted in a nightmarish outcome of sorts so the question is can “normalcy” be restored by someone stepping up to end Devitt’s reign at the top?
