Backstage Note On Jay White’s Free Agent Status

Jay White recently lost a “Loser Leaves Japan” match to Hikuleo at NJPW’s ‘The New Beginning’ event in Osaka and dropped a loss to AEW’s Eddie Kingston at the Battle in the Valley pay-per-view event.

In January, it was reported that White’s contract with NJPW was about to expire, and he was expected to leave the promotion. People in both WWE and AEW believe the promotions are interested in signing him.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that now that White is a free agent, those in WWE that would know if he’s joining the company haven’t heard his name mentioned. He wrote,

“Jay White is now officially a free agent as of 2/28. While all the circumstances seem to indicate he’s headed to WWE, there has still been no confirmation of that. If he is going to WWE, it’s not something well known within the company by many because multiple people who normally know haven’t heard his name mentioned.”
