Backstage Note On Roster Reaction To Harold Meij’s Resignation

As many of you know by now, Harold Meij will step down as the president of NJPW later this month and will be replaced by NJPW of America President Takami Ohbari.

In a report provided by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, many in the company are happy Meij is leaving, even if fans are not due to how well he treated them. The wrestlers are mostly happy, as are those in the office who were there before Meij arrived.

Ohbari is being groomed to be the next person in charge but some inside the company don’t know if he really will be outside of “public positioning.” Ohbari is likewise not being welcomed backstage by others, who expressed their displeasure privately. Recent NJPW Presidents and CEOs have been new to wrestling and were selected by Bushiroad.

They usually have difficulty earning the trust and respect of their roster and crew. The wrestlers don’t want to be bossed around by “amateurs” in the business. Morale has been down since 2018 due to this.
