“Mean” Gene Okerlund’s Reported Cause Of Death

As we reported yesterday (Wed. January 2, 2018) WWE Hall Of Famer “Mean” Gene Okerlund passed away. WWE broke the news on their website. Not much information was given regarding Okerlund’s passing at the time. However, Gene’s son, Todd Okerlund, spoke to the Associated Press and revealed his father passed away Sunday morning at a Sarasota, Florida hospital.

Star Tribune is reporting that Okerlund passed away around 5:30 A.M. in the emergency room. He had his wife, Jeanne, at his side at the time of his passing. Todd also revealed that his father had recently undergone three kidney transplants and got sick a few weeks ago. He noted, “it just kind of went from bad to worse.”

Todd also noted his father was dealing with several health issues. The report suggests Okerlund passed from natural causes. WWE Hall Of Famer and former Governor of Minnesota, Jesse Ventura, was interviewed about Okerlund’s passing. Here’s what he had to say:

“In an interview, I laughingly called him ‘the Mean Gene Hot Air Machine,’ and the ‘Mean Gene’ stuck,” Ventura said. “I’m proud that I gave him a nickname that will stick with him forever.”
