The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Wrestle Kingdom 17 hit a new record in Google search interest. Wednesday’s show was the eleventh-most searched topic, due in large part to Kenny Omega and Mercedes Mone.
This was the first time a Japanese event has ever ranked in the top 20 for search topics in a day. Major AEW and WWE events may make it to the top 20, but wrestling on the whole rarely does. For comparison, John Cena’s return provided huge numbers for SmackDown but didn’t rank in the top 20 for searched topics of the day.
