According to Dave Meltzer, the original plans for the next WWE NXT Championship match for NXT TakeOver: Toronto was to do an Adam Cole vs. Matt Riddle match. Those plans have since been changed to Adam Cole vs. Johnny Gargano III for the title. The change was made because WWE plans to keep Riddle in NXT for a long time and don’t want to rush anything. The idea is that Riddle can become a huge star in NXT before he’s called up to the main WWE roster. What happens when he gets there remains to be seen.
WWE NXT TakeOver: Toronto takes place on August 10th from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The show will air live on the WWE Network.
