Reported Inspiration for Bray Wyatt’s Firefly Fun House Antics

A report in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggests that Bray Wyatt’s antics from the recent Firefly Fun House vignettes may be inspired by therapeutic techniques for those suffering from PTSD.

The report cites an unnamed therapist who says The term special place, The painting of the house on fire, and butterfly hugs (putting his hand over his heart) are all coping mechanisms used in PTSD therapy involving bilateral stimulation.

It’s worth noting that the character does seem troubled and hold between two personalities. As for trauma, it can be argued and was hinted at on social media that the character suffered immense psychological and emotional pain when Randy Orton burned down the Wyatt Family compound.

While the bulk of this can all this be considered coincidental, it is interesting to see how these antics sync up with therapy methods. At the end of the day, WWE is creating television and does need to draw inspiration from some real-world methods like this.
