Mickey Gall’s callout of Phil “CM Punk” Brooks has landed him in the UFC, and put him in position to earn the fight he wants.
Gall (1-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) was featured on the first episode of UFC President Dana White’s streaming reality show “Looking For A Fight” and finished his professional debut with a first round rear-naked choke submission.
He immediately let White know what he wanted.
“Hey Dana White, I don’t know if CM Punk has an opponent,” Gall said afterward in the cage, “but I would love to fight that man.”
White said he was “interested” in Gall getting the spot against former WWE superstar Brooks (0-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who has yet to make his professional debut.
Now, White has given Gall the opportunity to fight for the a shot a the ex-professional wrestler.
“I might as well break it here, right?” White said while appearing on TSN’s “Off the Record.” “Mickey Gall – I’m bringing in Mickey Gall in and he’s going to fight a guy named Michael Jackson. They’re going to fight on the prelims on Feb. 6 on fight pass. If he wins that fight, Mickey Gall will fight CM Punk. CM Punk will be there to watch.”
Feb. 6 is UFC 196, which takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
“He’s holding a lottery ticket with really good odds of winning the lottery right now,” White said. “Like you said, he’s got ot get through this fight and it’s going to be a life changer for this kid.”
