During the Wrestle Kingdom 16 press conference this morning, NJPW provided an update on Katsuyori Shibata’s match at the event.
Shibata will be wrestling his match on January 5th against an opponent that has yet to be announced, but the rules have been set: it will be a Catch Wrestling Rules match, focused on grappling, stretches and submission holds. Strikes are prohibited, which was done to protect “The Wrestler”.
A return match for Shibata happened on October 21st against Zack Sabre Jr. during the G1 Climax 2021 Finals show. The bout had a time limit of five minutes and ended in a draw.
