AEW Dynamite Results (4/17/2024)

The new IWGP World Heavyweight Champion arrives. Jon Moxley says he won his first title right here in Indianapolis. Back then, he was swimming upstream. A lot of people tried to tell him what he and can and can’t do, but now he tells them to kiss his ass and watch him climb mountain after mountain. It’s about what is in your heart. This is the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

He has been chasing this illustrious title for five years. All the blood and the miles traveled to prove the impossible possible, by holding it live on AEW Dynamite. When your back is against the wall, how deep can you dig when you have nothing left to give? Are you willing to dare to be great? That is what AEW is all about. He brings up the Don Callis family.

Some talented individuals have got in to business with this creep who is feeding them lies. What is worse is that they put a hit out to injure Bryan Danielson. If you are going to put a target on his back, you are putting a target on his. Come find him. He will be here all night. Moxley suspects he is not their type. He could run them over with a car, but they probably won’t learn nothing.

Moxley calls out their biggest guy, Powerhouse Hobbs. He challenges him to a match in the main event of next week’s Dynamite. Will he accept? In that match, he will find out how out of his depth he is, because he won’t make it quick or easy. He will drag him out to the deepest waters, and when he sinks, he will know the difference between them, and that Don Callis is feeding them lines. Nobody can touch him. There are a lot of great wrestlers in this business, but there will only ever be one Jon Moxley.

Backstage, Mercedes Mone puts the entire women’s locker room on notice after what happened last week, when a coward attacked her in the dark.

Before the next match, the lights go out on Willow Nightingale and she is taken out similarly to Mercedes Mone, therefore making the first match a two-on-one situation. Nightingale appears later on to help out Adam Copeland.

#1. Adam Copeland & Willow Nightingale vs. Brody King & Julia Hart – Winners: House Of Black via submission (Hart on Nightingale)

Mercedes Mone shows up with a steel chair and Julia Hart gets out of dodge.

Samoa Joe has an interview with Renee Paquette. We look at what happened last week when Swerve Strickland held his title. Joe was worried that they would need to disinfect it afterward. Every time Strickland gets close, he chokes. History will repeat itself at Dynasty. He will destroy his competition and cement his legacy of being the greatest AEW World Champion of all time. At Dynasty, he doesn’t need to worry about choking, because he will be the one choking him out.

#2. The Young Bucks & Kazuchika Okada vs. Pac, Penta El Zero Miedo & Daniel Garcia – Winners: The Elite

The Elite sandwich Daniel Garcia in a ladder to take him out for good, but they quickly run when Pac enters the ring with a bell hammer.

Next up is a meeting between Hook and Chris Jericho, with Taz serving as a mediator of sorts. Jericho explains why he took Hook off the apron last week during the match. He is doing it for him, and he is the learning tree. Jericho says everyone who he is worked with has reached another level because of it. He wants to get Hook to the top, so what does he say? Can he put his animosity aside? Hook says no.

Jericho asks him why, and Hook tells him he doesn’t need his help. He calls him stupid, which Taz doesn’t appreciate. Jericho tells Taz to stop, because Hook isn’t as good as he thinks he is. Taz speaks up again, so Jericho pushes him over. Hook grabs Jericho and says he crossed the line. He wants a match any time, any place… now get out of his ring. Jericho eventually leaves without a fight.

In a backstage interview, Swerve Strickland says he knows he has stumbled in his career, but it was always stumbling forward. He lists all the obstacles he has overcome to get to where he is. Never give up. Never quit. Samoa Joe can call him what he wants, but this Sunday at Dynasty, he will be calling him AEW World Heavyweight Champion. Strickland wants to tell him how this is going down face-to-face tonight.

#3. Mariah May (w/ Toni Storm & Luther) vs. Deonna Purrazzo – Winner: Deonna Purrazzo

Toni Storm blindsides Purrazzo after the match, so Thunder Rosa makes the save. Deonna doesn’t like that, so she argues with Rosa until she’s pulled out of the ring by Mariah May. Storm tries to spring a surprise attack on Rosa, but she is countered and locked in a Camel Clutch while Rosa defaces her with some lipstick.

Bang Bang Gang and The Acclaimed trade insults ahead of their match at Dynasty, when the winner will take both sets of Trios gold.

#4. Orange Cassidy vs. Shane Taylor (w/ Lee Moriarty & Anthony Ogogo) – Winner: Orange Cassidy

Shane Taylor Promotions attack Cassidy, so Christopher Daniels & Matt Sydal try to make the save. But Trent Beretta stops them with a steel chair, therefore leaving Cassidy to be beaten down by STP.

#5. Claudio Castagnoli vs. Will Ospreay – Winner: Will Ospreay

The Don Callis Family attacks Castagnoli. Jon Moxley appears to make the save and succeeds. Ospreay isn’t happy about that.

Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana come to the ring. He calls Samoa Joe a little b**** and he’s running scared. Bring his ass out here so he can tell him what he thinks man-to-man. The World Champion makes his entrance, but a security team is between them. Strickland takes them all out! There is a brief stare down before a fight breaks out between champion and challenger. Samoa Joe gets the better of him in the end. He raises the title high above his fallen opponent at Dynasty.
