AEW Dynamite Results (5/1/2024)

Tony Khan opens the show by saying he will be running the show from his office at the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is then cut off by The Young Bucks, who lets us know they are not fired because they have ironclad contracts. Also, they will be running the show now. They open Dynamite with an intro entirely dedicated to The Elite.

Swerve Strickland enters the ring. He lets The Elite know that what they did to Tony Khan was a b**** move. He tells them to bring on whoever they have. The Young Bucks appear on the titantron screen to let him know they have someone lined up. Christian Cage makes his long awaited return. The Patriarchy takes out Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana, before Cage grabs a microphone. He tells Swerve there is something he should know about him. He never forgets. Cage remembers when he entered Nick Wayne’s gym and left him laying in a pool of his own blood.

He also remembers when they were a tag team at the biggest show in the history of this business… and he lost. Swerve embarrassed him. Cage has been waiting to get his revenge for Strickland’s mistakes, so he will do that now by taking his title and making him a footnote in AEW history.

When he talked about his path to the AEW title, he talked about how his daughter didn’t really know him. But he can promise him this… she will have a father she can be proud of for the rest of her life. He is going to walk in to Swerve’s house at Double Or Nothing and rip the title from his hands. The pain has just begun. Killswitch rips some of Strickland’s hair from his head.

#1. [TNT Championship Cope Open] Adam Copeland (c) vs. Buddy Matthews – Winner: Copeland retains

Adam attacks Buddy after the match. He grabs a steel chair, and just as he is about to hit Matthews, Malakai Black appears. He tells Copeland to do it, but as he goes to, the lights go out. When they come back on, the House Of Black are gone.

#2. Samoa Joe vs. Isiah Kassidy – Winner: Samoa Joe

Skye Blue calls Willow Nightingale a fraud. She had her pinned in their last match, but Stokely Hathaway got involved. If she is half the woman she says she is, prove it on Rampage by putting the TBS title on the line.

Orange Cassidy walks to the ring and grabs a microphone. He hates this. He assumed after the Parking Lot Fight, Beretta and Taylor would get out of their system. Cassidy has been told, because of what Trent did to Chuck after the match, that Chuck will never wrestle again. So, now is standing in this ring alone to tell Trent Beretta… he is interrupted. Trent says he is making it about himself again. Orange rushes up the ramp, but security is there to get between them. Kris Statlander calms him down… before Don Callis appears. He escorts Orange Cassidy to the back.

Jack Perry says he always wanted what is best for AEW. Tony Khan made him the scapegoat because they needed a sacrifice. And now, we will all sacrifice something. We’re entering a new era with The Elite.

#3. [FTW Championship] Chris Jericho (c) vs. Katsuyori Shibata – Winner: Chris Jericho with an assist from Big Bill

#4. Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brian Cage – Winner: Claudio Castagnoli via Big Swing submission

#5. Mariah May (w/ Toni Storm & Luther) vs. Serena Deeb – Winner: Serena Deeb

Justin Roberts gives an extra long special introduction for Kenny Omega. He grabs a microphone. He has never been good at this kind of stuff… talking about injuries. Several months ago, he was diagnosed with diverticulitis. Doctor said he was one of the lucky ones. He could have died.

The condition is so serious; he needed surgery, otherwise he would have to live with it, knowing it is a ticking time bomb. Kenny turned on Dynasty and saw Swerve make history. He saw Ospreay and Danielson have one of the greatest matches ever. He wished he could have been happy, but his tremors got worse, and he was scared. Kenny needed to return to face his fear. He made a promise to himself that this isn’t over until he exhausts every option to bring back Kenny Omega.

He moves on to The Young Bucks. What they forget is there is another EVP, and they can’t fire him. Until someone says otherwise, a part of the power in this company belongs to him. Kazuchika Okada interrupts.

Okada apologizes to him because he is the “Best Bout Machine” now. Jack Perry blindsides Omega and knocks him to the ground. Security tries to stop him from using a chair. Omega fights back despite his condition, but Perry strikes him in the midsection with a steel chair. The Young Bucks rush out to stop it, but they hit him with the EVP Trigger. FTR comes to Omega’s aid, and The Elite backs away.

Big Bill believes Chris Jericho will take him to the next level. Again, he asks if he can teach him. Chris Jericho shows up to thank Katsuyori Shibata for the match.
