Quick Hits Results:
- NXT North American Championship Match: Wes Lee (c) defeated Dijak by pinfall.
- NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship Match: Fallon Henley and Kiana James defeated Katana Chance and Kayden Carter (c) by pinfall to win the titles!
- 2-out-of-3 Falls Match: Carmelo Hayes defeated Apollo Crews by submission and pinfall for a 2-0 sweep.
- NXT Tag Team Championship Fatal 4-Way Match: The New Day (c) vs. Chase University vs. Gallus vs. Pretty Deadly — Gallus won the titles with Mark Coffey pinning Xavier Woods.
- NXT Women’s Championship Triple Threat Match: Roxanne Perez (c) retained over Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne by pinfall.
- NXT Championship Steel Cage Match: Bron Breakker (c) defeated Grayson Waller by pinfall.
Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:
Kickoff
- It was announced that the steel cage match for later on cannot be won by escaping.
- Charlotte Flair is used as the hype woman for the opening promo. That’s interesting.
NXT North American Championship Match
- Always interesting when the champion comes out first. Most likely, their idea was that Wes Lee would get the bigger pop to start the show, since he’s the more established NXT talent (despite Dijak being around longer and being on the main roster). He’s also the babyface, so that bumps the pop up a bit by default. But it might be a sign that Dijak is winning, too.
- It’s so nice to see a bigger arena for this show. A larger audience makes it feel like it is a bigger deal.
- All the red for the logo and all gives off Monday Night Raw vibes, too.
- Lee does unnecessary flips, so Dijak catches him, but Lee reverses it into a poison-rana. Decent sequence there.
- I thought Dijak had him with that chokeslam.
- Lee escaped a Feast Your Eyes and almost caught Dijak with a roll-up.
- Ouch. Lee flipped a hurricanrana reversal from a powerbomb off the turnbuckle and that was a little sloppy where Dijak almost got seriously injured.
- Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo and Tony D’Angelo popped up to distract Dijak for a moment. He took them out, but Lee was able to capitalize in the process to score a pinfall and retain his title.
- I was rooting for Dijak, but at least they had D’Angelo’s interference as a means to excuse it and prevent him from looking too weak.
- It looks like Dijak might have broken his left middle finger. That isn’t justice.
NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship Match
- Wow. At this point, Katana Chance and Kayden Carter have held their tag titles longer than not just any other NXT women’s tag team, but any WWE main roster women’s tag team, too. They surpassed The Kabuki Warriors, even. It’s crazy how little of an impact their tag title reign has actually had for being the longest. That just goes to show you what this division means in the overall scope of WWE, which is a shame.
- I’d love to see someone at the Performance Center point out to wrestlers that it doesn’t make any sense for you to run to the ropes, then back to the same spot you were, stop, and do a move. Just do the move. The People’s Elbow was fun/funny, but it ruined so many people’s perception of maneuvers even after all these decades.
- Hell of a hurricanrana from Katana Chance on Fallon Henley off the top rope. Nice spot.
- Henley goes for a pinfall on Carter. James holds down Carter’s feet from the outside. Henley has no idea, but it works, and we’ve got new tag team champions!
- I liked this; in particular, the outcome. Henley will have every right to be pissed at how they won and offer Chance and Carter a rematch, as they should have every right to be mad, too. James will be able to say they got the job done any means necessary.
- I’d imagine James and Henley won’t be tag team champions for too too long.
On Instagram, Drew Gulak coached Hank Walker with some pointers like how he needs to ground high-flyers and get new ring gear.
2-out-of-3 Falls Match
- They’re doing a good job with the TitanTron tonight. The entrances aren’t elaborate with pyro and such, but just showing footage the way they’re doing it makes them feel more special.
- This match has gone on for quite some time without a single fall. I’m surprised.
- Hayes is able to get Crews in a submission for the first decision.
- Commander Azeez is back out, to help Apollo Crews even the odds with Trick Williams interfering. But they’ve referred to him as Dabba-Kato. He’s going back to that gimmick? That’s a surprise.
- Hayes is still able to score a pinfall soon after that, though, to make this a 2-0 win.
- After the match, Dabba-Kato laid out Crews. There goes that renewed alliance.
NXT Tag Team Championship Fatal 4-Way Match
- Thea Hail is so fun with how energetic she is with this gimmick. Pretty Deadly are great at selling their obnoxious characters, too. Gallus still leaves a little to the imagination in my mind, particularly without Joe Coffey’s involvement.
- The new theme for Gallus is so similar to their previous one, but a downgrade. It’s like how TNA would have a knockoff of the WWE theme and get it ALMOST right, but just wrong enough to be off-putting. Or when you would see bootleg Power Rangers toys as a kid called something like Ranger Morpher Power Squad haha.
- Every team has had a moment to shine so far, but I can’t help but to feel like this is very much New Day vs Pretty Deadly more than any others.
- Great spot with Andre Chase giving Kit Wilson a vertical suplex off the top rope to the outside, crashing through everyone else.
- After a lot of teasing of who will go through the commentary table, it’s eventually Duke Hudson slammed by Gallus.
- My least favorite option ended up being the finish, as Gallus won the titles with Mark Coffey pinning Xavier Woods.
NXT Women’s Championship Triple Threat Match
- Particularly after just seeing two title changes, there’s no way Roxanne Perez loses her belt here.
- I’m imagining this will be a standard Triple Threat affair. Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne will be on the same page until one of them goes for a pin. That’ll upset the other. Then, they’ll start fighting. Perez will use that to capitalize and win.
- Let’s see how long it takes before I’m right about that.
- 3 minutes in, their teasing of potentially hitting each other has come to fruition where Jayne accidentally crashed into Dolin.
- Everything broke down 7 minutes in. Now, we’re in full triple threat “every woman for herself” mode.
- Perez scores the pin over Jayne to retain after a Super Pop Rocks off the top rope.
NXT Championship Steel Cage Match
- As I’ll always say, thumbs up on the heart beat drum music when the steel cage is lowering.
- I’ve had nothing to say about the match. It’s been fine.
- And look at that. Now, it’s over.
- This wasn’t anything bad, but I’ve immediately forgotten everything that has happened and I can’t tell you anything that was noteworthy.
