SummerSlam Quick Hits Results:
- Raw Women’s Championship Match: Bianca Belair (c) defeated Becky Lynch by pinfall.
- Logan Paul defeated The Miz by pinfall.
- United States Championship Match: Bobby Lashley (c) defeated Theory by submission.
- No Disqualification Tag Team Match: The Mysterios defeated The Judgment Day by pinfall.
- Pat McAfee defeated Happy Corbin by pinfall.
- Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship Match: The Usos (c) defeated The Street Profits by pinfall.
- SmackDown Women’s Championship Match: Liv Morgan (c) defeated Ronda Rousey by pinfall.
- Last Man Standing Match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) defeated Brock Lesnar
Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:
SummerSlam Kickoff
- No one makes Booker T laugh more than Booker T. That’s a regular thing on the pre-show. Gotta love it.
- Part of me likes the kickoff having no matches anymore. Another part of me hates how that happens and then, other people are left off the card who could have had a role (like the Intercontinental Championship not being on an event for over a year). At least this current trend of a full hour of pointless recaps and video packages means I don’t have to pay as much attention. I’ll likely see you in 45 minutes.
- Yup. Nothing to talk about during the entire rest of the kickoff. No announcements regarding a possible new opponent for Seth Rollins or anything of that sort.
Raw Women’s Championship Match
- The stadium atmosphere definitely gives this more of a WrestleMania vibe, despite the card not necessarily reflecting that 100%. No interesting entrance ramp or anything, sadly. I miss when they would decorate the stage. Why not have more of a beach feel for SummerSlam?
- Whenever Mike Rome’s voice cracks on BIG time Becky Lynch, I can’t help but to laugh.
- Lots of moments in this match where it kind of seems like they’re a step off, but not enough to botch anything. Just enough to make it a little awkward. Not as awkward as the ring gear, though.
- With that said, it isn’t a bad match so far.
- Belair escaping the Disarm-Her into a KOD to the outside was a nice transition.
- Nice C4 from Belair off the ropes! That’s followed up into a KOD for the win!
- Rock solid match. Now, hopefully, they can move on and feud with other people.
- Following the match, Becky held out her left hand for a shake. Belair contemplated, then accepted, and Lynch pulled her in for a hug, instead.
- Randomly, Bayley is back!
- Wait! Now Dakota Kai is back!
- Now, Io Shirai is here! It looks like Bayley, Kai and Shirai are all in a group now. Becky Lynch then backed up Bianca in their stare down.
Logan Paul vs. The Miz
- The Miz, Ciampa and Maryse are color coordinating with lime neon green outfits. This is not how I imagined Ciampa’s main roster run to be, that’s for sure.
- Paul is definitely looking athletic here. Lots of flexibility.
- Peacock froze for me when Ciampa was ejected from ringside. When it reloaded, AJ Styles was randomly jumping from the crowd into Ciampa. That was certainly a surprise.
- Niiiiiiiiice frog splash from Paul, crashing through The Miz on the commentary table.
- Maryse nearly cost Paul the match with a distraction to the referee. The Miz then almost accidentally nailed Maryse when Paul stepped out of the way. Paul was able to hit a Skull Crushing Finale on The Miz for the win.
- Another entertaining match. We’re 2-0! Let’s keep this going!
United States Championship Match
- This was pretty short. Not bad, though. It’s always fun to see feats of strength like Theory rolling into the ring, only for Lashley to pick him up with ease and drop him into a Hurt Lock for the win.
- Come to think of it, the pacing for this show is so good. It hasn’t stopped being energetic.
No Disqualification Tag Team Match
- Is this where things go south?
- That Slip N Slide move with the steel chair that Rey Mysterio did makes no sense. It should hurt him more than Finn Balor.
- Rhea Ripley is so much more intimidating than Dominik.
- Brood-style Edge with short hair is back, rising up with flames behind him and ready to spear Balor and Damian Priest for some vengeance.
- The Mysterios capitalize for a pinfall victory.
Happy Corbin vs. Pat McAfee
- I’m digging McAfee’s theme. The choir was an interesting touch.
- McAfee is starting this match off with a ton of fire. I love seeing that excitement. You can really tell he’s having fun.
- Deep Six is such an underrated move, just like how Corbin is such an underrated performer.
- I like the dynamic of Michael Cole rooting for McAfee and Corey Graves rooting for Corbin. That’s upping the commentary for the match.
- McAfee’s Swanton Bomb to the outside was scary looking at first, but he got it.
- Referee Charles Robinson has been knocked down. Time for Jeff Jarrett to run in, right? Or, for McAfee to low blow Corbin as revenge for last night’s SmackDown.
- McAfee wins with a roll.
I’m not a fan of taking time out of the event for Drew McIntyre to cut a promo to hype Clash at the Castle. We know we’re getting weeks worth of the same material. It’ll just come out repetitive. Thankfully, it was quick, instead of annoying.
Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship Match
- So far, this match hasn’t been as good as the last one, but I’d imagine they’ll pick up some more steam.
- They got me with a near-fall after Montez Ford hit his frog splash.
- Strangely, Tez is just pissed at Jeff Jarrett. I guess they needed to manufacture some tension there and keep pushing the potential split of The Street Profits and heel turn for Tez.
- 1D from The Usos for the win, with Angelo Dawkins taking the loss. Tez is going to be upset about that.
Kid Rock is shown in the crowd. Then, randomly, Riddle runs into the ring and says he’s not medically cleared to compete, but Randy Orton told him to not take crap from anyone and he wants to fight Seth Rollins. Rollins came out and was able to hit a stomp on Riddle before officials ended things.
SmackDown Women’s Championship Match
- Logically, this should be over in 30 seconds.
- Well, we’ve gotten past that mark. But Morgan’s definitely fighting from underneath.
- Possibly going with a referee stoppage? Or a thing where Morgan should stop the match, but refuses, and then has to tap out?
- Nope, they went with a shenanigans finish. Morgan tapped out while pinning Rousey.
I was curious why the ring posts were the thinner ones. That’s because Kane made an appearance to announce 48,449 in attendance and do his pyro spot.
Last Man Standing Match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship
- Brock Lesnar has a tractor ringside. I’m assuming that will factor into the finish, with Lesnar pinned down underneath it.
- This is the first Last Man Standing match for Lesnar? Interesting.
- I dig the tractor entrance, and Lesnar just jumping off from it straight into Roman. This needs to be a brutal brawl.
- Very glad this is just power move after power move. It makes a lot of sense that way.
- Lesnar dumping Reigns out of the tractor wasn’t as impressive as it sounds like it could have been.
- Reigns is really milking that 9.5 count. He’s doing a good job at that, calling it REALLY close.
- Lesnar starts running the tractor into the ring and FLIPS THE RING HALFWAY OVER so Reigns stumbles backward and to the outside!!!!
- Lesnar gives Paul Heyman an F5 through the commentary table!!
- Reigns and Lesnar are both down, barely able to move, and Theory is coming out!
- Theory nails Reigns with the briefcase, but Lesnar then gives Theory an F5. The Usos hit Lesnar with a double superkick. Everyone is down.
- Lesnar gets up, but Reigns spears him on top of both the titles. I don’t know if that was a happy accident or planned extremely well that those belts were placed there, but it was a great touch. Lesnar is up again at 9.
- Reigns hits Theory with the Money in the Bank briefcase, then starts smacking Lesnar with it.
- Lesnar is back up at 9, barely.
- Reigns blasts Lesnar in the head with the WWE Championship belt. Cole yells “For the love of God, count faster! No human being can take this amount of punishment!” But Brock is back up again!
- Reigns hits Lesnar again, this time with the Universal Championship. The Usos and Reigns then bury Lesnar underneath the commentary table, steel steps and Reigns is even standing on top. That’s your finish. I’m surprised it wasn’t the tractor.
