WWE Part Ways With Announcer (Update)

According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, NXT announcer Alex Reyes was released earlier today and sources are saying that he feels that his love for wrestling was partly to blame.

Sources close to Reyes tell us the NXT personality believes that he, Rich Brennan and Kyle Edwards were all hired because of their love for the business — but something changed dramatically earlier this year as all three announcers saw their roles reduced, and he thinks their lifelong fandom was the reason.

Sources didn’t specify any details where this may have been the case, but it’s well known that WWE Officials (particularly Vince McMahon and WWE Executive Producer Kevin Dunn) tend to frown against hiring die-hard wrestling fans.

WWE has released announcer Alex Reyes (real name Alex Del Barrio) this afternoon. Del Barrio was hired last October and worked for WWE NXT, appearing as a host at live events and working with talents on promos in the Performance Center. He was a huge WWE fan who had been working at getting into the company as an announcer dating back to 2004 when he was in college.

Del Barrio had previously done announcing for Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling promotion in Texas as well as The Harlem Globetrotters.
