WWE should put an end to Brock Lesnar’s title reign

With the Universal Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns at SummerSlam less than two days away, I think it’s time for a new Universal Champion to be crowned.

Brock Lesnar has been the Universal Champion for almost 18 months, yet he has defended the title very few times.

Since he is a part-time wrestler, his contract allows him to make occasional appearances on Monday Night Raw and compete for the title only on the company’s biggest pay-per-views (e.g Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, SummerSlam).

However, this means the “Beast Incarnate” is not a fighting champion, as the title should be defended not only in pay-per-views, but on selected episodes of Monday Night Raw as well.

With Lesnar’s contract expiring after SummerSlam, the WWE should have Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman or Kevin Owens claim the title and put an end to the Beast’s reign.

Strowman and Owens will battle at SummerSlam and if the Monster Among Men loses to KO, then the latter will claim the Money in the Bank briefcase.

That said, if the original plan doesn’t include Reigns beating Lesnar, then the defending champion should decimate the “Big Dog” and then drop the title to either Strowman or Owens, who will cash in the Money in the Bank contract.

I think the build-up for the match between Lesnar and Reigns was mediocre, to say the least, as the company had the Beast refuse to show up and the Big Dog repeatedly confront Lesnar and call himself the “uncrowned champion”.

In the last episodes of RAW, Lesnar did show up and attacked RAW GM, Kurt Angle, as well as Reigns, which could be a sign that the creative team may have plans for him retaining the title at SummerSlam.

If this happened, though, it would be “worst for business”, since Lesnar has become “the worst champion in history”, as Angle said on RAW, and it’s time for the WWE to crown a new Universal Champion and create new storylines.

Besides, if Reigns, Strowman or Owens claim the title, RAW will have a fighting champion and the Universal Championship will again become prestigious, as the title would be defended more often and the company would have the opportunity to add more superstars to the title picture, like Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Finn Balor, and increase the fans’ interest.

Overall, I think Lesnar should lose the title at SummerSlam and the WWE should put an end to this storyline and move on to the following pay-per-views with a new Universal Champion.
