SummerSlam Match Predictions and Heat Index Anticipation Levels

Temperature Scale = Scorching > Hot > Lukewarm > Temperate > Chilly > Cold > Freezing

Heat Index is my assessment of how interesting the segment is, including how excited I am for the match and how intriguing the feud has been. The hotter, the better. Scorching translates to not being able to wait to see it, while Freezing means I couldn’t possibly care less and think it will be awful.

WWE SummerSlam Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns

LAST MAN STANDING MATCH FOR THE UNDISPUTED WWE UNIVERSAL CHAMPIONSHIP:
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Brock Lesnar

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Roman Reigns wins.

Thoughts: I’ve said this maybe a dozen times over the past 7 years, but I guess I’ll say it again. Can this PLEASE be the actual, legitimate, very last time these two fight? Good lord. I want them to go all out and beat the hell out of each other (but be safe) and to cap this off the right way. Don’t give me some overbooked nonsense. The possible cash-in is also intriguing, even though I don’t think that’ll successfully happen.

SINGLES MATCH:
Pat McAfee vs. Happy Corbin

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Pat McAfee wins.

Thoughts: Pat McAfee has been great in his in-ring appearances so far. Baron Corbin is someone I’m more fond of than most people. Since they’re buds and great on character work, I think this is going to be the sleeper segment and a lot of fun.

UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Theory

Heat Index = Chilly
Prediction: Bobby Lashley wins.

Thoughts: Why is this happening? They didn’t have anything better for Bobby Lashley, but they have about 10 other things going on with Theory that distract from this. It is just a rematch, and Theory isn’t going to win that title back. Just move on. It should have been Dolph Ziggler fighting Theory with the Money in the Bank briefcase on the line. Next!

SummerSlam Ronda Rousey vs Liv Morgan

SMACKDOWN WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Liv Morgan (c) vs. Ronda Rousey

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Ronda Rousey wins.

Thoughts: Oh boy. I’m not excited for this match, nor am I hopeful for the outcome. I think there’s a solid chance Rousey wins the title back and this whole Morgan experiment was just to get a temporary pop and nothing more. Once the fans were talking, WWE won and now, back to the status quo. Hopefully, I’m wrong. I’d like to see Morgan at least hold the belt until the beginning of November, maybe. But I’m going Lukewarm on this because I think there’s a chance we see something interesting go down, even if it is just Rousey winning and the crowd shitting all over the segment.

RAW WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Bianca Belair (c) vs. Becky Lynch

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Bianca Belair wins.

Thoughts: The match will be good, but we’ve seen it like a dozen or so times over the course of the past year. MOVE ON. If Belair loses to Lynch at SummerSlam for the second time in a row, it will be a major denouncement of her potential and a sign WWE doesn’t want her to encroach on that top of the division spot carved out for Lynch and Charlotte Flair. Therefore, I’m rooting for Belair to keep it.

UNIFIED WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
The Usos (c) vs. The Street Profits

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: The Usos wins.

Thoughts: Having Jeff Jarrett as a special guest referee is intriguing to me, but not enough to send this into Scorching territory. Knowing these four guys are talented as hell and will have a great match keeps it in the higher end, but I’m still thinking this should have been a 2-out-of-3 falls match or some other gimmick to spice it up. Let’s go with The Usos retaining. I don’t think they’re dropping the belts until at least Mania.

SINGLES MATCH:
Riddle vs. Seth Rollins

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Seth Rollins wins.

Thoughts: Sure. Two main event level guys fighting in feuds that they probably weren’t scheduled to do, but since their other dance partners are MIA, this makes sense to put them together. There are no stakes, so either man can win and it wouldn’t shock me. I’m down to see them fight for 10 minutes. This feels very SummerSlam-esque.

SINGLES MATCH:
Logan Paul vs. The Miz

Heat Index = Temperate
Prediction: Logan Paul wins.

Thoughts: You’re not selling me on Logan Paul being the next big thing when the promos are as rough as they’ve been. This has a chance to win me over, but I’m still going into it hesitant to trust that. I feel like if I go Lukewarm or higher, I’ll be disappointed. Temperate is a good way to lower my expectations, but still show that I’m at least somewhat intrigued how this will go down once the bell rings.

SummerSlam No Disqualification Tag Team Match

NO DISQUALIFICATION TAG TEAM MATCH:
The Mysterios vs. The Judgment Day

Heat Index = Cold
Prediction: The Mysterios win.

Thoughts: Pass. Hard. Dominik doesn’t get the job done. The Judgment Day has seen such a significant downgrade since booting out Edge that it isn’t even funny. This being No DQ convinces me Edge will return and cost Damian Priest and Finn Balor, but even that isn’t interesting enough for me to be super excited. I want Edge to come out like his original debut with the “tortured soul” in the streets filled with rage music and all. Anything less, I’ll probably think this was a waste of time, as I’m not interested in seeing Rey and Dominik against Finn and Damian outright.

OVERALL SUMMERSLAM PPV:
How excited am I for SummerSlam as a whole?

Heat Index = Hot

Thoughts: Not all matches are super exciting, but the overall package seems interesting. At the very least, I’m thinking there’s a chance this acts as a reset with the Vince McMahon era coming to a close, and that’s intriguing.
