Jason Cade is one of the most exciting young prospects in Indy wrestling and continues to show a bright future. While polishing his technical skills along the way, his high flying ability is always on full display. His followers keep his gears rolling at full speed and are evident with the growth of the #FlyCadeFly movement.
Over the last few years, Cade has gone on to win a few championships, but entering into the recent “Best of the Best 16” (CZW) with the likes of Ricochet and Lio Rush really allowed him to display his full potential. While laying it all out on the line, he kept his reputation intact as The Flying Gambino. The art of independent wrestling is starting from the bottom and working your way up to the spotlight. Through hard work, constant practice and the resilience needed to be succeed, Jason truly serves as the perfect example for any newbie looking to get started!
By following the Independent Circuit and their storied careers, I am able to catch up with some of them and conduct an interview from time to time, which allows them to share with us their story. Recently I was able to catch up with Jason and he was gracious enough to put a halt to his busy schedule to discuss his career, future, and accomplishments. This is what he had to say.
* When did your pro wrestling career begin? How did you get started?
I started wrestling in 2012. I went to WrestleMania 28 in Miami and the minute I stepped into the building, I decided it was time to start training. From there I did some research and found out that FCW was running a 3 month beginners class, where you would be trained by Norman Smiley and Steve Kiern. So I signed up for that and had my first match after 3 months of training.
* What federations have you worked for along the way?
Evolve, FIP, PWX, CZW, Smash, Lucha TO, Ronin, Revolver, Fest, and that’s just a few. I can’t remember all of them.
* How could you explain the life on an independent wrestler?
It can be challenging at times. You have to be able to balance wrestling and training and working out and traveling with having a regular job. You have to make sure that you have a job that’s willing to work with you.
* Are there any funny/crazy road stories you would like to share?
There are so many that I have but what happens in the car stays in the car lol
* When did you decide to go full speed ahead to becoming a professional athlete?
Right after WrestleMania 28, that’s when I decided to start training.
* How did you decide on your name/gimmick?
Well I got my name because I am good friends with Byron Saxton and on the indies he used the name Michael Cade. So on my first Indy show, which he got me booked on, they decided to bring me in as his younger brother. As far as my gimmick it’s just been evolving over time. It’s really just me turned up to 100.
* Were there any obstacles on your journey to the ring? If so, what were they and how did you overcome them?
The biggest obstacle is starting. You have to be able to pay for proper training and it’s a real commitment. I remember working 2 jobs at 1 point just to be able to pay for wrestling school.
* What would be your dream match?
Definitely Ricochet, he’s been extremely influential to me in my career and I haven’t gotten a chance to work with him yet. Also another match with Rich Swann. I’ve only wrestled him once and I feel like I’m way better now than I was back then.
* What would you say is your greatest accomplishment in the sport of professional wrestling?
I don’t really know, I’ve never sat back and looked at them. I just try to stay focused on being hungry and striving to do better.
* What is your most memorable match?
Right now I’d have to say either the match I had with Rich or this 8 man tag I had at FIP. It was myself, Jason Kincade, Sammy Guevara, and Dezmond Xavier vs. Sami Calihan, AR Fox, Dave Crist, and Darby Allin.
* Who would you say has been your toughest opponent to date?
The toughest…. hmmm idk, maybe Sami Calihan. He just keeps coming at u and doesn’t stop.
* Who are/were some your favorite wrestlers and why?
Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, RVD, X-Pac, Brock Lesnar, Triple H, The Undertaker. I can go on and on. I’ve watched wrestling my whole life.
* Who is the real Jason Cade?
The real Jason Cade is hard to answer. I don’t see what other people see. To me I’m just a dude haha.
* What needs to be accomplished in your eyes to be able to look back and call your career a success when it’s all over?
I feel like I have to make it to TV and make some money to consider myself a success when I look back.
