ICYMI: Everything Interesting About NXT Great American Bash 2022

So you didn’t watch NXT Great American Bash? Luckily, I did, and I’ve got you covered.

We’ve got a random QR code, a repackaged Superstar coming soon, a title change and more. In case you missed it, this is a rundown of the most noteworthy parts of the show and the biggest talking points in a short and concise fashion.

Let’s dig in.

Roxanne Perez is Going for All of Toxic Attraction’s Gold

Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade beat Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne, capturing the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships. That in and of itself was already one of the biggest parts of the night, but Perez isn’t done trying to dethrone Toxic Attraction.

Since they had become No. 1 contenders through perfectly normal means, Perez still has her NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament contract available to use for another title shot. Trying to ride high on her momentum, she’s using that next week in a match against Mandy Rose for the NXT Women’s Championship.

I don’t think it’s crazy to assume Perez will be unsuccessful. The likelihood WWE is putting two titles on Perez at the same time is very slim. Instead, you should look out for Dolin and Jayne to interfere, leading to a distraction that Rose can capitalize on. Then, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if we get a brawl where Toxic Attraction fights with Jade, Perez and Nikkita Lyons to set up Lyons as Rose’s next challenger (and likely, the one she drops the title to.)

NXT QR Code: Scan Here for 8:10:11

At one point, the screen went black outside of a QR code and the words “scan here.” That led to the url https://www.wwe.com/br81011, wherein it says nothing but the text 8:10:11.

Obviously, fans are trying to decipher the meaning. That’s the whole point, after all—to generate buzz.

Translated to the letters in the alphabet, those positions would read H:J:K. In and of itself, that doesn’t mean anything. If it were HBK, for instance, we’d assume The Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels, would be involved. No trademarks that have been recently filed have any connection, like Hank Walker or Sol Ruca.

Some are thinking it might translate to August 10th and 11th, though that seems like a stretch. It would more likely be 8/10 and 8/11 if that were the case. 8:10:11 reads more as August 10, 2011, which has no significance I can come up with.

Vitalii Khrapko on Twitter says it has been 8 months and 10 days since Zoey Stark’s last match. I’d imagine the 11 hours or minutes idea wouldn’t translate as well.

But what about the br in the url? Some are speculating Brandi Rhodes to be the new general manager of the brand. I put no stock in that theory.

@CelticRiptide points out that the first thing that comes up on a Google search is a Bible verse of John 8:10-11: Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.” — other versions of that text are out there, too, but it remains similar.

To be honest, I have no guesses right now that I feel confident in, but I’m definitely curious.

Axiom is Coming

You know who might figure it out? Axiom. Why? Because he’s good at math.

This sounds ridiculous, because it is.

A-Kid is being renamed AXIOM and coming soon to NXT in a typical situation where they’re treating it like a debut, despite how he’s already been there before and we should know him from holding the NXT UK Heritage Cup. But hey, Fabian Aichner is Giovanni Vinci and we can’t acknowledge his past, so that’s the environment we’re in. This is just the latest in the long line of Kay Lee Ray becoming Alba Fyre, Kacy Catanzaro being Katana Chance and whatnot.

The gimmick portrayed in his vignette is that he’s a math wiz who uses those calculations to be good in the ring. I can’t imagine this is going to go far, and soon enough, he’ll just be A-Kid wrestling under the name Axiom without any semblance of this character, similar to how Duke Hudson doesn’t bring up the ace poker player stuff anymore.

JD McDonagh

Speaking of someone coming over from NXT UK with a new name, Jordan Devlin was supposed to make his first true appearance as JD McDonagh next week. However, “The Necessary Evil” as he’s calling himself, attacked Bron Breakker at the end of the show post-title match. Jumping the gun there has immediately set him up as a potential next challenger for the NXT Championship, particularly given how much focus he’s had since joining WWE a few years back.

Frankly, I’m down for it. McDonagh can have a good match with Breakker and he’s a fresh face for this scene. Attacking Breakker and leaving him out cold goes with the theme that everyone’s gunning for the NXT Championship and Bron’s never safe.

My only suggestion would be that if he’s not going to win the title, they need to do a good job making sure he doesn’t fizzle out after. If he’s just going to lose in a few weeks and do nothing, I would rather see McDonagh have a slower build.

Other Quick Notes

  • Trick Williams beat Wes Lee.
  • Tiffany Stratton beat Wendy Choo.
  • Apollo Crews will fight Giovanni Vinci next week, but Xyon Quinn still has his eyes on Crews. WWE just seems to be taking a detour instead of going straight to Crews vs. Quinn, for some reason.
  • Roderick Strong wasn’t a team player with Diamond Mine. He didn’t show any interest in camaraderie when Ivy Nile was trying to hype them all up and was obstinate during the tag title match, which The Creed Brothers won.
  • Tatum Paxley is still working under Nile. She was arguing with Katana Chance and Kayden Carter. It seems we’ll probably get KC and KC against Nile and Paxley down the line.
  • Chase University is going to England as a suggestion by Thea Hail, who was keeping Bodhi Hayward up all night watching Money in the Bank. Suuuure. That’s what they were doing. How long before they do a romance angle between those two? I would assume this would lead to an NXT UK tie-in, but the spoilers of those tapings didn’t indicate anything.
  • Solo Sikoa vs. Von Wagner is a feud now.
  • Just to clarify, Breakker did beat Cameron Grimes to retain the NXT Championship and Carmelo Hayes retained the North American title over Grayson Waller.

There you have it. That was NXT Great American Bash 2022. If you have anything else to point out or thoughts on these topics, keep the discussion going in the comments below!
