Since his debut in the Spirit Squad in 2005, to a breakout singles competitor, Dolph Ziggler has been a tremendously popular Superstar throughout his decorated career. A former World Champion, United States Champion, Intercontinental Champion, and more, Ziggler is a first ballot Hall of Famer.

Despite that, many would argue that Ziggler’s career peaked after he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and won the world title. Since 2014, Ziggler has wandered aimlessly throughout WWE, taking time off, and was even the subject of rumors that he was quitting wrestling.

With that being said, he always returns for an undercard push; his “annual ‘please don’t leave WWE’ push” as my friends call it. Regardless of these small pushes, they were forgettable, and here we are in August, 2019. Dolph Ziggler is still lost, but now he finally has an opportunity to get his career back on track.

While Dolph Ziggler is mixed up with Hall of Famers like Goldberg and Shawn Michaels, he’s getting valuable television time with a special factor: nostalgia. WWE needs to use this nostalgia factor to help create a scenario where Ziggler defeats a legend of the WWE, in this case, Goldberg.

With Dolph Ziggler vs Goldberg set for SummerSlam, Ziggler has the opportunity to gain tons of momentum with a big win. Not only that, but Ziggler must win this match. Losing one more match could be the “straw that broke the camel’s back” and in Ziggler’s case, kill what’s left of his career. Goldberg could lose his next 10 matches in a row and fans would still be excited when his music hits. Ziggler needs this win far more than Goldberg.

In addition, if Goldberg does win, he will not be on television or even wrestling at all to reap the benefits of his win. If he isn’t there to even experience the benefits of the win, Dolph could at least get heat or over with this win as he is on TV every week. Ziggler needs this win because it would help give his career direction. It would be an easy segue into pretty much any other feud in the company and the win over Goldberg would stun WWE fans and springboard Ziggler’s career back on track. This could turn the tables for Ziggler and if WWE plans to have him be a serious threat to anybody, this is their chance to legitimize him.
