AEW wrestler Wardlow has said there are similarities between his current angle with MJF and the rise of Batista in 2005.
After winning that year’s Royal Rumble, Batista turned on Evolution in early ’05, winning the World Heavyweight Championship from Triple H at WrestleMania 21.
Like Batista, Wardlow spent his early days in AEW as the enforcer of a group (The Pinnacle) but has since turned on MJF.
Speaking to Shak Wrestling Wardlow commented on how his career is reflecting the Animal:
“We kind of mirrored it in a way, it was very different but also the same. The crazy thing is this wasn’t my idea, I didn’t have any say-so in this. This just organically happened, my career just seems to be mimicking a little bit of Batista’s. Yes, you can compare The Pinnacle to Evolution and can compare myself and Max to Triple H and Batista, it’s really unfolded very similar to how that did and it’s a really special thing because we didn’t plan it that way.”
Wardlow defeated Shawn Spears in a Steel Cage match on this week’s AEW Dynamite in which MJF served as the guest referee.
Wardlow will face MJF this Sunday at AEW Double or Nothing 2022.
