CM Punk’s comments during the AEW All Out post-show media scrum were discussed on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. Bryan Alvarez noted that there were people backstage who felt Punk’s media scrum tirade was planned and rehearsed.
Alvarez added that (Punk) used Nick Hausman to talk about Colt Cabana. Punk’s comments were said to be out of context but also, at times had nothing to do with the specific questions that were being asked by reporters. Punk also mentioned the alleged burial of him behind the scenes from AEW EVP’s Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, and proceeded to bury them during the media scrum.
Meltzer responded by saying that it was “clear” that the comments were “planned.” Meltzer added that it was odd that Punk didn’t want to be blamed for Cabana’s status in AEW, but then seemed to really want to bury Cabana during the media scrum in such a personal way.
Meltzer also seemed to defend Hangman Page and the Young Bucks from Punk’s barrage, noting that it was them who built AEW and that Page has drawn on AEW PPV’s as a legitimate headliner. According to Meltzer, Punk showed no respect for AEW at all.
Meltzer added that Punk has been a divisive figure and he already had heat on him backstage. Punk has publicly shared his frustration about talent not seeking old-school advice from veterans such as himself and others. Instead, AEW talent has chosen to stick with their own styles.
Lastly, it was said that Omega and the Bucks did not kick down the door to Punk’s locker room.
