Back in March, we reported here on eWn that Dustin “Goldust” Rhodes would be leaving WWE. As many of you may remember, Rhodes took to Twitter and said those rumors were false and he was still under contract with WWE. He tweeted,
I am still under contract with the @wwe , and everything that is being said online is just talk, and complete bullshit. This is exactly why I hate smart marks!

For what it’s worth, he was still under contract with WWE at the time but was planning to leave the company all along once his contract expired and that has since happened. There is no 90-day “no-compete” clause since his contract expired and he wasn’t fired or released from the company. The same goes for Dean Ambrose or any others whose contracts expire.
Dave Meltzer has confirmed this news, saying that he wasn’t released or fired, but simply allowed his contract to expire:
