Freddie Prinze Jr. Discusses Iyo Sky Putting A Racist Fan In Their Place During NXT Run

While Iyo Sky might be new to the main roster of WWE, Io Shirai is no stranger to the WWE Universe. On a recent episode of his podcast, Freddie Prinze, Jr. discussed the Genius of the Sky, and how she put a racist fan in his place during her NXT run.

Speaking on his “Wrestling with Freddie” podcast, the former WWE writer spoke about that incident, as well as Sky’s main roster debut at SummerSlam alongside Bayley and Dakota Kai.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On the incident in 2019 and Sky’s stable debut: “It was a great way to open Summerslam. It just reminded me of one of the coolest Io Shirai stories ever. There was an episode of NXT, and I don’t think it was a TV show, it was just a house show because this [incident] was recorded on someone’s phone. And Io Shirai’s in a tag match, and she’s waiting for the hot tag to go in. Just then, some racist prick in the crowd yells ‘go back to China.’ And she throws a look over her shoulder and she goes, ‘I’m Japanese, b*tch!’ And she takes the tag and the whole crowd just storms this guy verbally. They own him and begin to clown him. It was great to see.”

On the backstage atmosphere now that Vince McMahon is gone:

“I can confirm that [things are less tense]. I’ve heard that from a ton of people already.”
