During a recent interview with Kiwi Talks, former WWE composer Jim Johnston commented on his release from WWE, why it feels like a divorce, and more. You can check out some highlights from the interview below:

Jim Johnston if his stage fright would cause him to decline a Hall of Fame Induction: “No [I haven’t been offered a spot in the HOF]. No, if I said no it would be because of getting fired. Not because of stage fright … You know, from my perspective, it’s one of those weird things where you’re of very differing, conflicting views on something. On a practical level and getting outside myself, it’s bizarre that I haven’t been asked. I mean it’s like, I have to ask, ‘Okay well, exactly what do you have to accomplish to get in?’”

On not being inducted when Drew Carey and other celebrities have been: “I don’t think anybody does [know the criteria for being inducted]. And — but at the same time, I’ve got the emotional part. Which is, ‘Wait a second, where are we? You decided to boot my ass out the door and now you’re saying you want me in the Hall of Fame? So, make up your mind.’”

On his WWE release: “There was definitely a sort of a divorce period where, you know. It really is so similar to a divorce in the sense that even if you didn’t want to be there anymore, which I really didn’t, it’s like it’s even if you don’t want to be with this woman anymore, you still end up going through all the usual stuff of sadness, anger, regret. All the whatever it is, 10 or 12 psychological stages.”

“And I definitely had some of that but it was definitely the music that got me through. and it was really nice as I said earlier to be able to write whatever I wanted, suddenly. It kind of got me back to a much more pure form of remembering how much I loved music just for the music’s sake. Not for ‘What kind of living can I make from this music.’ But just for the enjoyment of writing it, recording it and working on it.”
