Former WWE Superstar Kairi Sane has said she “cried alone” during her career with the company.
Signing with WWE in 2016, Sane’s contract ended earlier this month, nearly two years after she was allowed to move back to Japan.
In an interview with Proresu Today, Sane spoke candidly about her WWE run, and how difficult it was for her early on when she needed to cut promos in English:
“It was a treasure-like day. I spent a lot of time crying. [referring to her WWE run]. It wasn’t in front of everyone, but there were times when I went home and cried alone… There were times like that, but even though I practiced a lot in the microphone performance class at NXT, I couldn’t speak English well in the actual performance, and I was frustrated and cried.”
Sane captured the NXT Women’s Championship and WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles with Asuka before she left television in mid-2020 to be with her husband.
She served as a WWE ambassador in Japan until the company closed its Japanese offices in September 2021.
