Kurt Angle has claimed that the original finish for his WrestleMania 19 match with Brock Lesnar would have seen the Olympian emerge victorious.
The pair headlined WrestleMania in 2003 for the WWE Championship, though the match is perhaps best remembered for Lesnar’s botched Shooting Star Press.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Kurt Angle show, Angle claimed that before neck problems caused plans to change, he was supposed to beat Lesnar. He said,
“I was going to wrestle Brock at WrestleMania 19… during that time, I was supposed to beat Brock, but I broke my neck beforehand. So I had to do the job for Brock and give him the title because I had to have surgery.”
Lesnar’s win would mark the start of his second WWE Championship reign, which would end in July when Angle pinned The Big Show in a triple-threat match.
