KUSHIDA debuted on WWE NXT in 2019, facing off against Kassius Ohno in a singles match. During his time on the black and gold brand, he re-teamed with Alex Shelly, wrestled Johnny Gargano for the North American Championship, and captured the NXT Cruiserweight Championship after defeating Santos Escobar in an open challenge match. KUSHIDA would depart from WWE this past April after his contract expired. Now, it appears KUSHIDA will be back in a wrestling ring.
NJPW announced that the former Cruiserweight Champion would have his first match back on July 3rd. KUSHIDA will team with Hiroshi Tanahashi & Alex Zayne to take on KENTA, Taiji Ishimori & Gedo in a six-man tag team match.
KUSHIDA recently signed a new contract with NJPW and confirmed the news at the New Japan Road event in Korakuen Hall.

KUSHIDA confronted the current IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion Ishimori after his successful title defense against Takahashi. KUSHIDA told the champion during the confrontation that he only needed a few wins before he would earn the chance to go after the title.
