Note On Issues With AAA & AEW Following TripleMania

There are reportedly issues between AAA and AEW following FTR’s tag team title loss to Dralistico and Dragon Lee at TripleMania.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the issues stem from FTR dropping the titles to Dralistico and Dragon Lee. AEW President Tony Khan knew about Dragon Lee’s contract negotiations with WWE, but he okayed the booking decision because he thought FTR would be losing to Dralistico and RUSH. Since RUSH is a contracted AEW talent, Khan had no issue with the booking idea.

However, Dragon Lee ended up vacating the titles and departing for WWE, which was WWE’s way of “rubbing AEW’s face in it.” To make matters worse, WWE published a story to ESPN with footage of FTR taking the loss. AAA maintains that Lee and Dralistico were the pushed team, so that’s why they made the decision to put the titles on them.

Because of the situation, there are issues between the two promotions that need to be resolved. Konnan went to Orlando, FL on January 28th to smooth things over, but it’s unknown how those talks went. AAA wanted to use Kenny Omega as a challenger for El Hijo Del Vikingo’s MEGA championship. AAA have also inquired about Kota Ibushi being a challenger for Vikingo’s title now that he’s a free agent.
