As seen during an episode of AEW Dynamite last month, Jon Moxley cut a promo on Hiroshi Tanahashi. Of course, this led to some speculation that the two men were going to have a match at All Out on September 5. That now seems unlikely as Tanahashi will be facing Kota Ibushi in Japan the night before.
According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plan was to do a match between Moxley vs. Tanahashi when he cut the promo, but that won’t be happening now. When Moxley cut a similar promo on Wednesday night, Tanahashi’s name was not mentioned. The decision to change plans was reportedly made by NJPW. There are rumors that the reason for the change was because Moxley would have won and NJPW didn’t want Tanahashi to lose right now. It’s still possible the match will still happen down the line.
