As recently as September, it was reported that the G4 gaming network could be in trouble. Today, we learned exactly how bad things were at the network as it shutters its doors.

According to a new report, the crew of the network and the staff of the WWE series “Arena,” all quit prior to the network’s announced shutdown. The New Day’s Xavier Woods was a prominent figure on the network. He was not shy about sharing his feelings regarding the announcement.

This report comes via the Washington Post. The article goes on to state that Comcast had made the decision to axe the gaming network only one year after its revival in 2021. An email was sent from G4 head Joe Marsh notifying staff that all streams would be postponed, and that the Los Angeles studio would be closed until tomorrow. The email did not mention the network’s shutdown.

Former employees of G4 noted that they had been locked out of internal communication channels, such as Slack, without any “immediate explanation.” This lockout took place following the abrupt departure of the staff for the WWE series, “Arena,” who all quit last week.

The Post goes on to state that expenses for talent could have played role in the network’s closure. Employees mentioned that more well-known content creators and social media stars had an asking price of $25,000 to $30,000 a day when scheduled to appear.
