Initially, Kevin Hart was expected to host this year’s Oscars. However, after some backlash for some past Tweets, Hart backed away from the gig. Currently, the Oscars doesn’t have a host. This would be the first time since 1989 where the ceremony wouldn’t have an official host. One fan took to Twitter and noted that The Rock would make a great host for the event:
“If the Academy is so inclined to line up a great host for next year’s Oscars, just pick @TheRock. Nuff said.”
The Rock responded and revealed he was actually the first choice to host this year’s Oscars. However, due to his filming obligations with ‘Jumanji 2’, he was unable to make things work. “The People’s Champ” left the door open for possibly hosting the Oscars down the road:
“Ah mahalo dude, I was their first choice to host this year, and my goal was to make it the most fun and entertaining Oscars ever. We all tried hard, but couldn’t make it work since I’m shooting Jumanji. Academy and I were super bummed but maybe one day down the road”
