Thinking Out Loud: WWE Games Depress Me…

I’m a huge video gamer, and I just got my beloved PS4 over the weekend. While I sat in my room (Like a typical nerd) eating food, and wasting my Saturday away, something hit me; Why wasn’t WWE 2k14 made for next gen consoles? The question I’m now wondering is if they’ll eventually be released for Xbox One, and for the Playstation 4. While (For now, atleast) It doesn’t seem like they will be, could we still see it at all? The short answer is likely no, but that didn’t stop me there.

Again, eating away at my food I got (Chinese, if you must know) I had another epiphany; What about TNA? Will we see TNA’s next game come out anytime within the next 2 years or so? Or was TNA iMPACT! : The Game one of the last releases we’d be seeing for quite sometime on a console? While they do have portable games for the Nintendo DS, and for the Sony PSP, will they stick with the portable systems, or will they decide to release something, even if it is for the Wii U? Hmmm…

Well, as I realized all of that, I had yet another epiphany… What about a WWE game for the PS Vita, and the Nintendo 3DS? Is that even an idea that WWE would like to entertain? Keep in mind that games like WWE All-Stars, and Rockpocalypse are games that have been on portable systems, and have even sold quite well…Yes, I know All-Stars was released for the consoles too. The point that I am trying to make is will we see another WWE game, arcade or not, atleast from now to the first 6 months of the next year?

Well, while I said it’s unlikely that 2k14 will be released for next gen, what’s wrong with atleast putting the WWE games on PC? This is a question that I’m sure many gamers (Myself included) have always asked. I’m not a PC gamer in the slightest, but it makes a lot of sense for more than the obvious reasons. Of course, the sales of the game are always important, but what about the PC’ers? The ones who may not have the money at first for a PS4, and all they have is their computer that they tricked out…Or whatever it is that they do?

While a planned WWE game was in the works (Being WWE SvR Online) it was canceled before it got to see the light of day. Games like WWF With Authority! And WWE RAW were released to PC before it. It’s a sad fact that WWE treated the PC so poorly, especially with how die-hard PC gamers really are. I mean, would it hurt them to release a game for PC?

The answer apparently is yes. The WWE games for PC are so few and far in between that there really isn’t a point to even discuss those games. It still doesn’t excuse the fact that the games should be treated for a next gen release, or even give the computers a try. With how Sony is basically reintroducing the Vita to its audience, I don’t see what could hurt if they give it a try. What do they really have to lose?

If they port a WWE 2K game to PS Vita, 3DS, and smartphones, ideally, it won’t do too much damage; Especially the iOS/Android version. It would be far less expensive for them due to the fact that they wouldn’t have any physical copies made. You might recall WWE Legends of Wrestlemania, or WWE Wrestlefest made for iOS and Android, however eventually got pulled. There’s more proof that WWE doesn’t have faith in mobile gaming, to add with their faith in PC games.

Or, what about having a WWE game line exclusively for PS Vita, 3DS, and mobile? What about maybe a more arcade style game similar to All-Stars? The fun and imagination that the brings is overwhelming. They would be able to utilize key features like the 3D element to have the Superstars pop out at you, or the Vitas backpad to allow the Superstars to do various taunts, or special moves. The fact that WWE doesn’t go for games in these markets anymore blows my mind.

Here’s to hoping that eventually they come to their senses, and realize that the mobile and PC markets have more to offer than what they think. Keep in mind that I’m not saying to alienate the console gamers, but to more so broaden their ecosystem of gaming. What do you guys think? Leave me a comment below!
