Triple H Addresses Differences Between WWE & NWA/WCW WarGames

Triple H has explained the changes WWE made to WarGames when bringing the iconic match back to TV after years of going unused.

WWE brought WarGames back to TV with their 2017 NXT TakeOver: WarGames event, and has used the double-caged structure each year since then.

The original WarGames had a top on the cage and the match could end only by submission, surrender or knockout, while WWE’s version has no top and the match can be won by pinfall or submission.

Speaking to The Ringer, Triple H defended the changes.

“When we first started redoing [the match], people were upset that we didn’t have a top on the cage. And I was like, ‘Well, we already have one with the top on Hell in a Cell.’

“And the other thing is, it used to drive me nuts when I was a kid that the cage was too short. You’d see like what happened with Brian Pillman, where he got put up for a powerbomb and it wasn’t enough space. [Taking the top off the cage] allows you to do so much more stuff.

“The times have changed, the business has evolved, and the cage that WarGames is held in needed to evolve, too.”

WWE will use WarGames on the main roster for the first time as part of this November’s Survivor Series Premium Live Event.
