Update: More On Talent Meeting Held Prior To AEW Dynamite

Fightful Select has an update on the talent meeting that took place prior to this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, corroborating what the Wrestling Observer Newsletter had to say. Many talents were complimentary of the meeting, noting that Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, and Chris Jericho were the right people to lead things.

The talent were told to “keep their personal issues personal” and solve their problems backstage instead of leaking news to the dirtsheets. This was a point made at other talent meetings as well. Danielson, Moxley, and Jericho were praised following the meeting. Jericho was praised for stepping up backstage more than he previously had. Meanwhile, Moxley and Danielson are said to be “adored” by the AEW locker room. Moxley’s promo about being “the answer” to AEW’s problems was something talent agreed with, while others like Danielson’s demeanor, which was described as “calming.”

The meeting was said to be not “anti-Punk,” but with three veterans leading the conversation (all of whom have done as much or more than CM Punk in their careers), it left the locker room feeling more positive than the day before. One talent noted that AEW has a wide variety of veterans to go to for advice. Another noted that while the incident shouldn’t have happened to begin with, the way Eddie Kingston owned up to his role in his issue with Sammy Guevara was the right way to handle it.

Previous reports on this meeting noted that Danielson, Moxley, and Jericho were the ones to lead proceedings. They called the meeting prior to the show in Buffalo, New York. Prior to the talent meeting, performers knew that they had a show to do and proceeded as though it were “business as usual.”

One source noted that it was the “best backstage meeting” the talent have had. There was said to be a realization that there was some brand damage to AEW that they would now have to repair. They were told not to “air dirty laundry” in a public manner. One source said that when it was over, everyone decided to leave All Out in the past and look forward. Several said that they were happy that after the negative publicity, they were still able to put on a strong episode of Dynamite on Wednesday. While most are excited for the future, there were others upset with how everything went down on Sunday.

Neither Jericho nor Moxley were scheduled to be at the show, with Moxley having an angle that would have included a vacation and eventual return. That seems to be over now as Jericho, Moxley, MJF and Danielson will be the top stars going forward.
