During a recent interview with News 5 Cleveland, commentator Vic Joseph commented on Michael Cole and called him “WWE’s greatest announcer of all-time.” You can check out some highlights from the interview below:
On being offered a WWE job: “I remember the phone call, actually. This is going to be very embarassing, but I’m going to share it with you. I got called December sixth. It was a Thursday. Might have been December fourth. Fourth, fith, sixth, it was a Thursday. And it was Michael Cole who said, ‘We’re going to offer you the job, here’s your contract.’ I remember [saying], ‘Yeah, awesome, very excited.’ I remember hanging up the phone and falling to my knees in the driveway of my father’s house, which was my grandmother’s house before that, which I’ve watched an abundant amount of wrestling in.”
On wanting to be a WWE commentator from an early age: “It was one of those things I think as a kid, you know, you have a dream, like I want to be a firefighter, or I want to be a football player. As you start to get older you have different interests, start to have different dreams. For me, I always wanted to be a WWE commentator ever since I was a kid. And so when I got to college, all my goals were focused on journalism, to be a sports commentator. Because I always thought the only way I was gonna get to the WWE was to become more marketable by doing other things. Such as the Cleveland Browns, such as the Cavaliers, such as working for other media outlets to bring my, I guess call it portfolio up that would make myself more marketable to the WWE. So it was a long road of doing that, and at the same time working on the independent wrestling scene.”
On Michael Cole: “Michael Cole to me, is the greatest announcer that the company has ever had. Look at the longevity in-which he’s done it at a very high level.’”
