Wade Barrett Says Backstage Nexus Rule Was One Of The Stupidest Things In WWE

WWE SmackDown commentator Wade Barrett has said a rule regarding his old stable the Nexus was one of the dumbest things he’s had to deal with.

The Nexus (consisting of the NXT Season 1 rookies) would debut in 2010 and would last for just over a year.

The group was originally led by Barrett, who told Ryan Satin that the group of anti-WWE rebels was not allowed to step foot in the WWE locker room.

“Genuinely, it was one of the dumbest things that I’ve experienced in my time in WWE. There was a person who was put in charge of us who is no longer with the company who decided that it would not be appropriate for a faction of guys who were attacking the company to be allowed in the locker room… it kind of made a bit of logical sense.”

Barrett pointed out that no one watching WWE TV had access to the locker room, so keeping them out did nothing to convince fans they were a real anti-WWE group.

“Why am I main-eventing Survivor Series, why are we all main-eventing SummerSlam, yet I’m not eligible to step in the locker room here? I’m gonna change in the hallway; dinner ladies and catering staff and cleaners are walking past while I’m putting my gear on.

“I’m like, ‘This is stupid. There’s no benefit to this. There’s no payoff to this whatsoever.'”

Barrett was kicked out of the Nexus in late 2010 and replaced by CM Punk.

The five-time WWE Intercontinental Champion would go on to found ‘The Corre’ in 2011, before having a singles run before his departure in 2016.
