Dissecting Why Cesaro Has Been Underutilized In The WWE

Ever since he joined WWE back in 2011 after years of experience which included a popular stint with Ring of Honor, Cesaro has been perhaps one, if not the most popular WWE Superstar among the IWC alongside perhaps, Daniel Bryan. However unlike Bryan, Cesaro has been one of the most underutilized talents on the WWE roster as I dissect possible reasons why.

He does not have support from Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn.

When it comes to which WWE Superstars and Divas to push and which WWE Superstars and Divas not to push, Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn are the ones to decide. While Triple H has some influence, he often does not have his say over who gets pushed in the WWE. In order to get a push in the WWE, you have to have support from McMahon and Dunn which may explain why Superstars and Divas such as John Cena, Big Show, Kane, The Miz, Kelly Kelly, Brie and Nikki Bella and A.J. Lee got pushed more so than Triple H guys such as Kevin Owens and yes, Cesaro.

A lack of charisma as well as mic skills.

When he was with Ring of Honor, Cesaro (then known as Claudio Castagnoli) didn’t need charisma nor mic skills to succeed but once he joined WWE in which charisma as well as a gift of gab (unless you’re Brock Lesnar or Roman Reigns) are very vital. Cesaro was never charismatic nor wasn’t very good on the mic compared to the likes of Seth Rollins and Daniel Bryan).

He doesn’t have, you know, that “look.”

Sure, Cesaro may be 6’5″, but he doesn’t have that look that both McMahon and Dunn envy: huge size and bulky muscles. The Big Show, Kane, Roman Reigns and even The Great Khali are some of the examples why the WWE ranks looks first and talent second.

He isn’t very marketable.

You ever wonder why John Cena has been booked almost invincible? That’s because he sells the most merchandise and tickets in the WWE. Same thing why part-timers such as Brock Lesnar, Sting, Undertaker and The Rock get the main event slots alongside Cena is because they sell more tickets as well as cater to the casual fan and that McMahon focuses its attention on the casual WWE fan which mainly consists of women and children. Cesaro, on the other hand isn’t very marketable alongside pretty much any other mid-carder.

There you have it. My take on why Cesaro is WWE’s most underutilzed Superstar on the main roster.
