FINALLY!!! Roman Reigns has done it!!! No, not winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, something far bigger than that. Roman has finally won the hardcore fans over and earned their respect.
Not too long ago Roman Reigns won the Royal Rumble in front of the Philly crowd, the boos that night echoed around the arena as well as the living rooms of people watching back home. The negativity directed towards him was in my opinion very nasty and unwarranted. The hate was so strong that not even The Great One himself “The Rock” could help put his cousin Roman over.
Fast forward to December 2015 and what a turn-around it has been, those exact same PHILLY fans at last nights stellar RAW broadcast and the same people watching back home in their living rooms cheered for Roman Reigns like they cheered for Hogan/Warrior/Rock and Stone Cold back in the day, the pops he received at both the TLC PPV ad the following RAW was immense and Roman deserved every bit of it, he’s earned it.
Roman has been a hot button topic among wrestling fans for the past 2 to 3 years with folk doubting his in ring work and mic skills, yet from Fastlane versus Daniel Bryan to Wrestlemania 32 headlining against Brock Lesnar to other high profile matches against Rollins, Orton and Wyatt and Sheamus, have been stellar every single match.
No longer does he have the limited move set, of just the spear or superman punch, he seems to have added a lot of fire power to his arsenal. He just needs the chance to prove it himself and show everyone that he is ready to be the New Face Champion of WWE.
His mic skills have improved dramatically since the days of Vince McMahon writing ALL of his promo’s, obviously he’s not Paul Heyman or the Rock on the stick but then again, who is? I wrote a piece not too long ago asking fans to be more patient with Roman as this generation of fans want things to happen too quickly or are too quick to jump the gun, they’re very impatient. I’m just happy the fans now finally see what i always saw in Roman Reigns, “a superstar in the making”.
Since WWE’s decade long face of the company John Cena has been on his hiatus, it was time for someone to step up to the plate and steal his spotlight, and Roman has done just that 100-fold by showing us another side of himself, a more aggressive side. The Roman Empire has begun and i for one am excited to watch how this unfolds throughout the course of 2016.
