Who Should Dethrone Gunther for Intercontinental Title? (Monday Morning Q&A)

Welcome back to another Monday Morning Q&A where I toss out some questions to get a feel of how you guys and gals are feeling about certain topics.

So here are 5 questions I’d like to toss out for this week. I’ll give my answers, too, but the key here is that I want to know what YOU think! So make sure you chime in!

1) Gunther has officially surpassed Honky Tonk Man’s record. Now that that’s been broken, it’s fair game to lose the title at any moment. Who would you personally pick to be the next champion, how would you do it and when would you take the belt off The Ring General?

At this point, I would be down for four scenarios happening:

  • Gunther retains the title all the way through WrestleMania, breaking the cumulative all time record. He wins the Royal Rumble as well and goes on to defeat Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship in a title-for-title match. Then, he vacates the Intercontinental Championship on the following Monday Night Raw and a tournament begins to crown the next champion, with the winner being any number of people.
  • Johnny Gargano captures the title from him sometime after Survivor Series if WWE is doing Raw vs. SmackDown. That way, we get Gunther beating Rey Mysterio at that show. Assuming Mysterio is still champion, of course.
  • Jey Uso wins the title after Survivor Series. Same situation. Then, Jey versus Jimmy at WrestleMania is for the Intercontinental Championship, or Jimmy costs Jey the title on the Road to WrestleMania to a heel like maybe Drew McIntyre (as I’m hoping he’ll turn heel in the coming weeks)
  • Chad Gable gets another rematch. This time, it’s an Iron Man match. He wins the title then.

2) The Dudley Boyz have apparently signed a WWE Legends contract. Do you think they’ll ever wrestle another WWE match? If so, who would you like to see them go up against?

At this stage in their careers, I don’t anticipate another match happening. Then again, they were booked for Impact 1000, so maybe they feel good enough to have a grand finale at the biggest company.

If that were to happen, it’s a shame The Usos aren’t a thing anymore. The 1D against the 3D would have made sense. Looking at the current lineup of tag teams, nobody really stands out to me. I guess The Street Profits would have to be my pick, almost by default, as they’d be a more interesting match than The Judgment Day, The Brawling Brutes, Pretty Deadly, Imperium, LWO, etc.

3) What do you think of Damian Priest’s new Money in the Bank briefcase, and does getting that make you think it will be a long time before he cashes in?

It’s cool. I’m always down for them introducing custom briefcases. Not only does it make the Superstar come across more special, but it also is an obvious opportunity for merchandise. Can’t fault a company for trying to earn some more money by giving fans something they might want to buy, right?

I ask the second part of the question because that’s indeed what I feel. Now that they’ve introduced this, it can’t possibly be on the cards for Priest to cash in any time in the next 2 months or so, at least. We might be looking at him still holding this briefcase come WrestleMania, even.

4) Do you think Jade Cargill will simply win the TBS Championship back from Kris Statlander, or are other plans in her future?

To be honest, I’m disappointed she didn’t leave AEW and isn’t coming to the WWE roster. That would freshen her up and I think she’d succeed better in WWE overall. If she’s just sticking around in AEW, then I think it’s a major mistake to have her go after Statlander and keep up the heel thing as TBS champion, or to lose in an attempt to win it back. I would have had her return as a babyface (or at least a tweener) to work her way toward beating Saraya, or whoever she drops the belt to. AEW Women’s World Championship should be the next step for a babyface Jade Cargill, rather than hitting the reset button and sticking with the midcard title.

5) What are you most excited about for Impact 1000? Or, if you aren’t excited at all, why is that the case?

I’ve never been an Impact guy. When TNA was at its peak, I still wasn’t digging the product. I haven’t seen a full episode in enough years that I can’t remember when it was, but I’m pretty sure the last HALF episode I watched had Josh Matthews feuding with Scott Steiner. That’s how little I pay attention to this company.

With that being said, I’ve gone out of my way to not see spoilers. I do plan on watching the show, and I’d like to be surprised about whatever interesting things they have in store. If this is an anchor show for the company, maybe something cool goes down.
