During the post-AEW Revolution 2024 media scrum, Sting revealed that he stopped taking steroids following his split from The Ultimate Warrior in 1990.

Sting said, I think it was definitely good that we were both together to begin with because he looked like a freak. I was 265 pounds, and I looked like a little kid compared to him. But both of us together, we were pretty intimidating, and we had a lot of people saying ‘Maybelline Road Warriors.’ But we thought, ‘Who cares? We get a match with the Road Warriors, we hit the big time.’ But I think it was good that we ended up splitting up. It was good that he went his way and I went mine. We were not meant to be together. We were meant to start together, and it got us in the door, for sure. But he needed to be in his own. We were going to kill each other, literally on the road. Two roided out young men. That’s what it was then. Two roided-out guys. Just shooting straight here. That stopped in 1990 for me, so yeah. Didn’t stop for him, but it stopped for him.”

As seen at Sunday night’s AEW Revolution 2024 pay-per-view event, Darby Allin and Sting defeated The Young Bucks to retain the AEW Tag Team Championships. The titles will now be vacated following Sting’s retirement and a tournament will be taking place to crown new champions.

AEW President Tony Khan is still on an emotional high after AEW Revolution 2024, as he lavished praise on Sting’s AEW run, calling it the “greatest comeback in sports history.”

Khan tweeted, “Last night at #AEWRevolution, Sting completed the greatest comeback in sports history. @Sting’s 3 Year Run in AEW from Age 61-64: 30 matches, 30-0 record (29-0 in AEW, 1-0 in NOAH for Great Muta’s Send-Off) + Retired as @AEW World Tag Team Champion in the best last match ever.”
