UPDATE: Here are the latest details on Don Callis, iMPACT! Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Over the weekend, Callis denied rumors that he was leaving NJPW for iMPACT! Wrestling. Callis will be doing the commentary for Sunday’s NJPW “Power Struggle” event. That means he won’t be working the Bound for Glory pay-per-view even if he is negotiating with iMPACT! Wrestling.

A few weeks ago, several management members of iMPACT! Wrestling visited Pro Wrestling NOAH and attended one of the New Japan events while they were in the country. Scott D’Amore reportedly spoke in front of the NJPW locker room and told the crew that iMPACT! Wrestling would love to be able to work with New Japan Pro Wrestling again. Following that meeting, the talks between Callis and iMPACT! Wrestling reportedly began. D’Amore also approached Kazuchika Okada and apologized for the way TNA used him years ago. NJPW officials are said to be aware of how much iMPACT! Wrestling wants to work with them but they are said to be very happy with and focused on their relationship with Ring of Honor.

While iMPACT! Wrestling has not given Don Callis an official contract as of this writing, the company wants to try to reach a deal with him. Obviously, Callis is not going to do any work for iMPACT! unless there is a signed contract in place. According to a source, if Callis didn’t start with iMPACT! Wrestling in November at the upcoming TV tapings, it likely wouldn’t happen until January. If Callis does leave NJPW for iMPACT!, NJPW already has two replacements in mind.
