As seen on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw in Green Bay, WI at the Resch Center on the USA Network, Universal Champion Brock Lesnar officially accepted WWE Champion Jinder Mahal’s challenge for a “Champion vs. Champion” match at Survivor Series.
Dave Meltzer revealed more details about the upcoming match on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. WWE is planning on adding a special guest referee to the match.John Cena’s name was mentioned as a possibility. This led to Bryan Alvarez pointing out that it would make sense to insert Cena into the match in order to set up a storyline with Mahal for the future.
Although Cena is likely to be the person chosen, there are other names being floated around. Meltzer said the other possible referees might not want to do the match, so Cena might end up getting the spot by default. The idea of adding a special guest referee is to put someone in the ring who would be intriguing with Lesnar.
Metzer refuted the possibility of the referee being Goldberg or The Undertaker due to both those rivalries have run their course, and he doesn’t see the WWE going back to them anytime soon.
Meltzer made it clear that he doesn’t think Mahal will be going over in this match and it’s more likely that Lesnar continues his dominance.
