Bryan Danielson says he’s excited for his match with Kazuchika Okada at Thursday’s NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 pay-per-view event. At a press conference to promote the show, Danielson said,

“I just want to say how grateful I am to be here in Japan, especially New Japan. It’s been almost 20 years since my last tour of New Japan.”

He continued, “To be here now, at the Tokyo Dome…when I started professional wrestling, what I really wanted more so than main eventing WrestleMania in WWE, which I did twice, more so than anything, I wanted to be a star in New Japan Pro Wrestling. 20 years after my last tour, I get to wrestle Okada in the Tokyo Dome for Wrestle Kingdom.”

In other New Japan Pro Wrestling news, new NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi recently spoke with Sports Illustrated to discuss his in-ring future and his match with Zack Sabre Jr. at Wrestle Kingdom 18.

You can check out some highlights from the interview below:

On his in-ring future: “When I lose that motivation, I will retire from wrestling. As long as I am an active wrestler, I continue to aim to be the top wrestler.”

On his match with Sabre at Wrestle Kingdom 18: “I have wrestled Zack many times, so I have experience and countermeasures against him–but the same can be said for Zack. This time, I’m prepared to show moves and techniques he doesn’t know.”
