WWE announcer Corey Graves believes no match over the past 12 months can hold up against Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins inside Hell in a Cell.
Rhodes returned to WWE in April of this year at WrestleMania 38 by defeating Rollins and would beat the Architect again at WrestleMania: Backlash.
The two would face off at WWE Hell in a Cell in June, and Rhodes would muscle through a torn pectoral to defeat Rollins again.
Speaking on the After the Bell podcast, Graves explained his pick for the coveted ‘Match of the Year’ spot. He said,
“Anyone arguing with me, you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. This was as close to perfect as anything gets. Hell in a Cell, to me, was the greatest match of the trilogy. The rivalry, the promos back and forth, the vitriol between Rollins and Rhodes, the backstory. Everything about it to me was a perfect sports entertainment story in the year 2022.”
Graves added that Rhodes is his pick for wrestler of the year, and recalled the audible gasps from fans when he removed his ring jacket and showed the bruising from his torn pec.
Rhodes appeared on this week’s WWE RAW ‘Best of 2022’ compilation episode and is a favorite to win next month’s Men’s Royal Rumble match.
