At Saturday night’s WWE SummerSlam 2023 pay-per-view event, an “injured” Bianca Belair fought the odds and overcame Charlotte Flair and Asuka to win the WWE Women’s Championship.
Following the match, IYO SKY rushed to the ring and cashed in her Money in the Bank contract, quickly pinning the “EST” to become the new WWE Women’s Champion. Bayley and a returning Dakota Kai appeared thereafter to celebrate with SKY. Kai has of course been nursing an ACL injury over the past few months.
During the WWE SummerSlam 2023 post-show press conference, Dakota Kai offered an update on her injury status, explaining that she is still on the path to being cleared for in-ring action and attended the event to show her support for Damage CTRL partner. She said,
“I came because this is such a big moment for her and us as a group, but I’m still a ways away from being in-ring cleared, but I had to be here for her tonight. This is a crazy accomplishment for her, representing us as Damage CTRL, but yeah, 2024 is about to be crazy, we are getting there, I’m squatting heavy, we are good.”
