GUNTHER has cemented himself as the longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion in history.

As of Thursday, September 7, WWE is officially recognizing GUNTHER as the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time.

WWE’s Chief Content Officer Triple H took to Twitter to congratulate GUNTHER on the historic milestone, writing,

“Defining his own legacy. And this is just the beginning…Congratulations to @Gunther_AUT on making history as the longest-reigning #ICChampion EVER.”

GUNTHER has now held the WWE Intercontinental Championship for 454 days, surpassing the record previously held by The Honky Tonk Man (454 days).

Technically, GUNTHER will surpass the record tomorrow at 455 days. Although he has only tied The Honky Tonk Man’s actual record of 454 days today, WWE is already recognizing The Ring General’s reign as the longest.

The Honky Tonk Man previously held the record for the longest Intercontinental Title reign for 35 years.
